Thankfully, Jay and Benie allowed us to come back to the lodge, to pick up that missed shot from the first day. We also added a scene with evil Cooper. This time we tried some fancy camera work, with Kirsten Kuppenbender’s DIY dolly.

DAY 2: INTERIOR DOUBLE R DINER

Monday, March 9th, 2009

On the road again, to North Bend, this time. We were allowed to spend a few hours filming some scenes in the original Double R Diner – now called Twede’s Cafe.

The interior of the diner looks extremely different from how it did in the series:

Twede's Interior

The theme of the diner is now Tweetie birds, after the name of the owner – Kyle Twede. Kyle was very patient with us while we worked through three scenes. Patience was particularly required during the filming of the last scene, which involved Nadine Hurley storming in the door of the Diner and telling Shelley Johnson off.The diner actually burned down after the filming of Twin Peaks and was updated when it was rebuilt.

Most of the Twin Peaks trivia type stuff is relegated to the back hallway. There are production photos, Twin Peaks festival paraphernalia, and a complete set of Twin Peaks trading cards.

DAY 1: INTERIOR GREAT NORTHERN

Monday, March 9th, 2009

The cast and crew met at Voodoo Donuts at 8am and set off for the 3.5 hour drive up to the Kiana Lodge in Poulsbo, Washington. My friend Bob Kendrick has lent us her bus, the advantage. It is truly an amazing vehicle, with a rocking sound system.

The Advantage

Jay and Benie of The Kiana Lodge graciously allowed us to come and shoot for the day. The Kiana Lodge is a beautiful location, it is where the original Great Northern Hotel interiors were shot, and it is also the home of Laura Palmer’s Log! One of the staff members of the Lodge told us that about a year ago the log floated out into the lake, with the current, and they had to retrieve it by boat. Now it is anchored to the shore.

We shot two scenes at the Lodge. The first was a scene with Ben and Jerry Horne in Ben’s office, the second with Doc Hayward, and Harry Truman in the entranceway of the Great Northern. Unfortunately we ran out of time at the end of the day, and didn’t complete the second scene.
